Behold The Corpse Reviver #2
Posted by Darwish 14 years ago
This is the best mixed drink ever. When I was a younger man, in the days before my wife, vinfille, introduced me to the Corpse Reviver #2, I would drink martinis. Now, I understand that martinis are ontologically unsound, a drink for nouveau rich white suburban asshats with delusions of class. Furthermore, the Corpse Reviver contains lemon juice, an important anti-scorbutic for those of us living in the abysmal depths of winter in the Great White North.
Borrowed from Vintage Spirits & Forgotten Cocktails by Ted Haigh:
1 ounce gin
1 ounce Cointreau
1 ounce Lillet Blanc
1 ounce fresh lemon
1 drop of pastis
Shake in an iced cocktail shaker, and strain into cocktail glass. Drop a stemless cherry into the bottom of glass.
I've never had this...
...nor have I ever experienced Lillet Blanc. But now I want one!
I've got everything but the Lillet. I'll track some down this weekend and let you know how it goes!
Thanks, Dar!
Darwish: I will be interested to know how you like it.
vinfille: We originally bought the Lillet blanc for this drink, but I've come to like it on its own, as an aperitif- iced with a slice of orange. Yum.
vinfille: So, dark*, have you had a corpse reviver yet? What do you think?
Pastis vs patis
kingskyprawn: At first I thought you meant patis, but that would be quite the different drink! Probably smell more like a corpse that a corpse reviver.
