I bet this is totally verboten - singing praises of an unknown mega-talented guitarist/songstress - but I'm smitten with her sound, and if anyone else on LinkFilter had pointed me in her direction, I'd've sent them a crate of that nectar-sounding malt whiskey.  
 
But first a question: why am I - an expat Claphamian scratching a living in Seattle - hearing more informed and louder buzz about Laura from the clubs and cognoscenti back in Blighty than here in the Emerald City where it turns out Laura actually recorded her two albums.  
 
And that's where she is right now - in the UK where we appreciate talent. No doubt coming to a folkie venue near one of you lucky blighters.  
 
On second thoughts, I think I'll keep hold of the uisge beatha and just drown my sorrows.  
 
No problem getting hold of Troubled by the Fire here in the States, but for Carbon Glacier, I had to get it from some importer with a warehouse in Hong Kong ...  
 
Give either album a whirl and you'll see what the fuss is about. Think American Kate Rusby crossed with ISB's Licorice and a touch of the husky Kim Carnes - then add the likes of Bill Frisell and Danny Barnes in the line-up. I tell you, magic.
